In a season full of tight-rope acts, the most dangerous
of them came on November 9th at Purdue. Late in the
fourth quarter, the only Buckeye points on the board
came from a hurried field-goal that barely saw the ball
snapped before the second quarter clock expired.
Fortunately, the Boilermakers had just a pair of field
goals to show for their efforts. With less than two
minutes in the game, Ohio State was at the Purdue 37
yard line, facing a critical fourth and one. Armed with
a play-call to spot tight end Ben Hartsock for short
yardage, Krenzel looked off his covered intended receiver,
and spotted Jenkins in one-on-one coverage. The steely
quarterback delivered a perfect strike for a 37-yard
score, and OSU's first lead of the day.
Gamble's fourth interception of the year sealed the
10-6 win, and an 11-0 record. Coupled with an Oklahoma
loss, Ohio State would rise to second in the polls,
and first in the BCS rakings.
