Fourth-ranked Ohio State returned to Columbus to entertain
number 18 Penn State on October 26th. In another tight,
defensive struggle, the Buckeyes were trailing 7-3 in
the third quarter when Chris Gamble-who started the
game at both wide receiver and cornerback-intercepted
Zack Mills, and zigzagged through the suddenly turned
Lions defenders 40 yards for OSU's only touchdown of
the game.
Gamble, who was in on well over 100 plays in the contest,
became the first Buckeye player to start a game on both
sides of the ball in over 30 years.
Along with defense (Penn State gained just 179 total
yards), came outstanding effort from the Buckeye special
teams, particularly the punt coverage unit. Andy Groom's
leg kept the Nittany Lions pinned in their own end,
leading to a Big Ten Player of the Week honor for the
senior punter.
